Po zimowej przerwie, od piątku, arboretum leśne w rejonie leśnym Kudypy (województwo warmińsko-mazurskie) jest otwarte dla zwiedzających. W ciągu najbliższych dni można tam zobaczyć między innymi „niebieskie żaby”.

Leśny ogród botaniczny w Kudypach prezentuje zbiory drzew i krzewów, składające się z około tysiąca gatunków i odmian. Od kwietnia do czerwca można tam zobaczyć między innymi kwitnące magnolie, kolorowe azalie oraz różaneczniki.
„Wiosna w tym roku jest trochę opóźniona, ale już można zauważyć pierwsze oznaki w przyrodzie. Kwitną już dzikie fiołki, przylaszczki, a pierwsze krzewy kwitną też np. dereń. A żaby trawne już mają okres godowy” – powiedziała kierownik arboretum, Paulina Rutkowska.

Największe zainteresowanie turystów co roku budzą tzw. „niebieskie żaby”. To trawne żaby zamieszkujące leśne bagna i stawy, których samce podczas okresu godowego przyjmują intensywny niebieski kolor.
Na powierzchni 15 hektarów arboretum, oprócz tzw. lasu naturalnego, można zobaczyć jeszcze m.in. dział roślinności Polski z 300 gatunkami rodzimych kultywarów drzew i krzewów oraz zbiór 700 gatunków i odmian drzew występujących w lasach.
Na terenie arboretum znajduje się także lapidarium geologiczne, czyli kolekcja skał i głazów narzutowych z rejonów Warmii i Mazur, a także kącik pszczelarski i eksponaty historyczne związane z pracą leśników.
Arboretum, założone w 1989 roku, oprócz zbierania roślin, prowadzi również badania naukowe i edukację przyrodniczą. Powstało w wyniku huraganowych wiatrów, które w latach 80. przewróciły część drzew w stanowisku nasieniowym. Dodatkowo na osłabienie zgłębienia miały wpływ obniżanie się poziomu wód gruntowych, tworzenie się naturalnych przerw oraz szkodniki wtórne. Na jego miejsce powstał ogród botaniczny.
Arboretum jest czynne codziennie, włącznie z niedzielami i świętami, od połowy kwietnia do końca października.
